Building Capacity for Response to Intervention Implementation Project

Overview

Funded by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) through August 2019, the goal of the Building Capacity for Response to Intervention Implementation Project is to build capacity for Texas schools to implement Response to Intervention (RTI) as a means for improving student achievement, reducing the number of students with learning difficulties, and reducing disproportionality.

The project focuses on disseminating information, resources, and tools designed to enhance the use of an instructional decision-making model for RTI in the areas of reading, mathematics, and behavior.

Web site resources address steps for campus-level RTI implementation, from conducting a campus needs assessment, developing an action plan, promoting teacher collaboration, designing differentiated instruction and intervention, to answering parents’ questions.

Major activities for the Building Capacity for Response to Intervention (RTI) Implementation project include the following:

• Disseminating the Campus RTI-Progress Monitoring Tool (RTI-PMT) 
• Creating free online professional development modules and resources
• Collaborating with TEA and the Regional Education Service Centers to disseminate information and provide venues for Texas school leaders and stakeholders, including foster care service providers
• Promoting use of RTI as a means for school improvement, especially in districts that are targeting disproportionality
