Dyslexia in the Secondary Grades

In this module, you will learn why schoolwide Tier 1 literacy models are necessary at the middle school level. You’ll also receive an overview of what works for middle schoolers who need literacy support.

These modules explain the components of the Promoting Adolescents’ Comprehension of Text (PACT) intervention.
Comprehension Canopy
In this training, you will learn how to implement the Comprehension Canopy strategy in your literacy lesson. This brief, 5-minute strategy sets students up for success by hooking them into the content of the lesson. Download the accompanying handouts.
Essential Words
In this training, you will learn how to implement the Essential Words strategy in your literacy lesson. Essential Words uses explicit instruction to preteach one key vocabulary term to students before reading a text. Download the accompanying handouts.
Critical Reading
In this training, you will learn how to implement the Critical Reading strategy in your literacy lesson. Critical Reading includes the Get the Gist strategy, which teaches students to identify the main idea and key supporting details of a passage. Download the accompanying handouts.
