MCPER has been awarded a contract to determine whether Ohio institutions of higher education have remediated audit findings of misalignment with the science of reading.
In December 2025, MCPER completed the audit of 48 educator preparation programs in Ohio institutions of higher education. The results highlight successes but also found 34 institutions that need to do additional work to achieve full alignment.
On March 10, MCPER Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Schnakenberg, who will serve as principal investigator for the new work, testified before the Ohio House Workforce and Higher Education Committee on the audit methodology and findings and the science of reading.
In the new effort, MCPER will review postaudit submissions from these 34 institutions to determine whether identified audit findings have been satisfactorily remediated so they can retain their licensure. The work will commence immediately and end December 2026.
