Austin Partners in Education has asked MCPER to evaluate core Classroom Coaching programs in the areas of mathematics, literature, and reading. In the Partners in Math program, volunteer coaches work with small groups of eighth-grade students, using Austin Independent School District mathematics lesson objectives. In the Partners in Literature program, volunteer coaches facilitate discussions about stories and articles with small groups of struggling middle school students to promote reading comprehension. In Partners in Reading (English) and Compañeros en Lectura (Spanish), volunteer coaches and students read a variety of texts with second-grade students to practice fluency and comprehension skills and to help them become stronger readers.
