MCPER is partnering with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) on a new federally funded center that will help expand the use of evidence-based strategies to improve outcomes for students with disabilities who require intensive intervention.
The National Center on Academic Interventions (NCAI), which launched on October 1, will “work with states, school districts, schools, and educator preparation programs to implement and support evidence-based literacy and mathematics instruction,” according to an announcement on the AIR website. NCAI is funded for 5 years by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs.
MCPER Executive Director Sharon Vaughn will serve as literacy knowledge translation expert for the new center, and MCPER Associate Director Sarah Powell will be the mathematics knowledge translation expert. Together, they will direct MCPER’s portion of the work, with Colleen Reutebuch serving as deputy director. They join NCAI Project Director Sarah Arden and Deputy Director Amy Peterson of AIR, Judy Lee of True North Evaluation, and other staff and partners.
The MCPER team will contribute to NCAI’s knowledge and expertise in literacy and mathematics interventions and support knowledge translation activities, including product development and technical assistance.
