MCPER’s College and Career Readiness Initiative: English/Language Arts Faculty Collaborative has been awarded $800,000 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for a 2-year continuance. The P–16 collaborative engages faculty members from Texas institutions of higher education associated with educator-preparation programs. Upcoming project-sponsored events include the “Strategies for Integrating Cross-Disciplinary Standards” workshop on May 17–18 in Dallas, featuring presentations from Dolores Perin of Columbia Teachers College and Michael Sweet of The University of Texas at Austin. Another workshop, “Culture, College Readiness, and Adolescent Literacy,” will be held September 17–18 in Austin, featuring Carol Lee of Northwestern University and Timothy Shanahan of the University of Illinois.
