Special Education Leadership Impact Series

Overview

The Special Education (SPED) Leadership Impact Series project will develop nine self-paced, asynchronous courses on the TEA Learn platform that provide foundational content to build Texas special education leaders’ shared understanding and equip them to move beyond compliance to become strategic, system-level instructional leaders. These courses will also serve as foundational content for future adaptations while providing flexibility for exploration at any time.

The project will also develop synchronous application sessions in nine capacity-building areas for education service centers to facilitate activities to support implementation. These courses will include case studies, expert panels, and leadership-in-action videos or visits.

Purpose

Anchored in the Texas Special Education Performance Diagnostic framework, grounded in universal leadership best practices, and sharpened through a special education lens, the courses will build capacity to design coherent systems, strengthen instruction, and cultivate collaborative cultures. Leaders will emerge prepared to navigate complexity, influence district priorities, and drive sustainable improvement for all learners.

Participants

  • Special education district leaders: Coordinators, directors, content specialists, etc.
  • Other district and campus leaders: Chief academic officers, human resources directors, finance directors, principals, etc.
