Purpose
The Texas Intervention Academies prepare administrators, teachers, and interventionists to implement effective, evidence-based academic interventions within a strong multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework.
As part of the Content Academies initiative, the Texas Intervention Academies equip educators and leaders with research‑based, high‑quality professional learning to strengthen foundational skills, accelerate student growth, and support targeted intervention across grade levels. Participants will become equipped with
- practical strategies for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions;
- early and effective approaches to help close achievement gaps before they widen; and
- systems‑level practices that build coherence and sustain interventions over time.
The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk developed the Texas Intervention Academies through a partnership with the Texas Education Agency.
Program Structure
The Texas Intervention Academies are organized into three tracks, each differentiated by role and level of instructional depth. Participant tracks encourage an aligned, systemwide approach to MTSS and the delivery of classwide, targeted, and intensive intervention.
Click on the different tracks below for more details on each.
- Administrator Track
- Tier 1 Intervention Track (Reading or Math)
- Tiers 2 and 3 Intervention Track (Reading or Math)
Audience: District and campus leaders
Focus: Systems leadership for sustainable, scalable intervention implementation that drives coherence and impact
Objective: To develop the ability to effectively schedule, resource, and monitor interventions; select and implement high-quality instructional materials and assessments; and lead data-driven decisions to enhance student achievement across all tiers
Format: Asynchronous prework and 2 days of synchronous online learning
Audience: Educators providing Tier 1 instruction, including teachers, interventionists, instructional coaches, and educational aides
Focus: To build teacher capacity for high-quality, flexible, data-informed small-group and classwide interventions
Objective: To interpret universal screener data, design flexible groups for differentiated instruction, and implement classwide interventions with fidelity
Format: Asynchronous prework and 2 days of synchronous online learning
Audience: Educators who deliver or support Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, including teachers, interventionists, instructional coaches, and educational aides
Focus: To deepen diagnostic and instructional expertise for targeted intervention
Objective: To develop research-based content knowledge in reading and mathematics progressions, use diagnostics to identify breakdowns and select appropriate intervention strategies, and apply the instructional hierarchy (acquisition → fluency → generalization → adaptation → maintenance)
Format: Asynchronous prework and 6 days of synchronous online learning
Pilot Overview
Pilot opportunities are available for districts and educators statewide for the 2026–2027 school year. MCPER will be the sole authorized provider, and participants will engage in live, online synchronous sessions.
The Texas Intervention Academies are provided at no cost to participants for the pilot year. However, stipends for off-contract learning are subject to statutory requirements and commissioner rulemaking and must also follow local district approval and eligibility policies.
To apply for the pilot year of the Intervention Academies for the 2026–2027 school year, please submit an application via Qualtrics. The application is available from April 1, 2026, to May 15, 2026.
Applications are not prioritized based on submission date.
Applicants will be notified of their status via email by June 1, 2026, and training date RSVPs will be collected at that time.
