Colleen Reutebuch, principal investigator of MCPER’s Language for Learning Institute, published a brief explaining an intervention by the Center for Research and Educational Achievement and Teaching of English Language Learners (CREATE) that incorporates literacy and language development activities into social studies instruction. The brief describes lessons designed to increase English language learners’ social studies knowledge while simultaneously improving their vocabulary acquisition and overall reading comprehension.
