MCPER researchers and collaborators will lead another installment of their institute series with Humanities Texas in June—this time, focusing on reading instruction for English language arts and social studies teachers in grades 6 to 8.
"Teaching Evidence-Based Reading Practices at the Secondary Level" will be held online from June 15 to 17, featuring MCPER Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Schnakenberg and longtime MCPER collaborators Diane Haager and María Elena Argüelles. The Zoom sessions will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. each day, and an optional follow-up webinar will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on July 26. The content will align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and will focus on reading instruction and content area literacy using social studies texts.
This free institute is available to all sixth- through eighth-grade English language arts and social studies teachers in Texas. To register, and for more information, visit the Humanities Texas website. Registration closes at 5 p.m. on June 10.
