Frayer Model Resources

Description

The MELVA-S Frayer Model Guide for Science provides teachers with evidence-based approaches to support vocabulary instruction, which is a key component to students’ success in science. It provides a modified Frayer model template, examples and instructions to teach different components of the vocabulary word, ideas for differentiation, and example lesson plans. It is our hope that teachers can directly adapt the routines included within this resource to support their students’ science learning.

The purpose of the MELVA-S project is to develop an online formative assessment that measures the science vocabulary knowledge of Latinx bilingual students with different levels of English and Spanish language proficiencies. Results from the assessments can be used to progress monitor students, help teachers differentiate language and vocabulary instruction, and provide additional science vocabulary supports within a response to intervention approach.
