"Using Research to Inform Literacy Instruction: Do Children Learn to Read Naturally?" is an online module that addresses the question: “I think that learning to read is like learning to speak. It's developed through a process that all children naturally go through. Isn't this correct?” This module is the first of our professional development series on using research to inform literacy instruction. Within this series, we will respond to questions that educators frequently ask when planning for and providing effective literacy instruction. The focus of these modules is research—what research tells us about literacy knowledge and skills and what it tells us about reading and writing instruction.
