Official Announcement and Celebration
The University of Texas celebrated the opening of the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk (MCPER) on August 27 at the Littlefield Home. The President of the University, representatives of several MCPER grantors, members of the MCPER Board of Directors, and other important guests were in attendance. The invitation included this text, "The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk was created in the spring of 2008 in response to a major commitment from the Meadows Foundation of Dallas. A research and training institute for teachers and school leaders, the Center is dedicated to ensuring that educators have the knowledge and tools to diagnose and intervene to alter the trajectory of students who are at risk of educational failure. The Center will undertake rigorous new research aimed at understanding the biological and environmental factors affecting at-risk students. It will also translate science-based findings into real-world practice and promote needed policy changes. The goal is to promote academic success for a greater number of students in Texas and the nation by improving education outcomes."
